Colts LB Zaire Franklin (ankle) returned to practice on Sunday.
The Athletic's James Boyd reports that Franklin is still rehabbing from the left ankle surgery he underwent this offseason, but he successfully participated in 7-on-7 drills for the first time in this year's training camp on Sunday. This is great news for the Colts' defense. Franklin has totaled 115-plus tackles in each of the last three seasons. Last year, he banked career highs in both quarterback pressures (15) and sacks (four).

Steelers Have Not Discussed Extension With WR Calvin Austin
D.K. Metcalf will take on George Pickens‘ role as the Steelers’ No. 1 receiver in 2025 and beyond. As the regular season approaches, Pittsburgh still faces questions about the secondary WR spots. As things stand, Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson are positioned to handle larger workloads than they have so far in their brief NFL careers. Austin in particular will be worth […]

C.J. Stroud said "I feel strong, I feel healthy" when asked about how he's felt throughout training camp.
Stroud was briefly sidelined for the spring due to an injury to his throwing shoulder, but the star quarterback was able to avoid the PUP list to start training camp and has been all systems go since camp opened. Stroud is working in a new offense and is hoping to bounce back from a 2024 season that saw him struggle more than he did as a rookie when he threw for 4,108-23-5 on his way to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. The third-year signal-caller profiles as a fringe QB1/QB2 in fantasy and should help fuel Nico Collins to another season of high-end production.

James Cook said he did not practice on Sunday due to "business."
Per ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, Cook repeated "'business' over and over" when asked why he missed practice and whether or not he would return to the practice field on Monday. It's possible we have a hold-in brewing between Cook and the Bills as he continues to seek an extension before the start of the season, although Monday's participation should give us a better sense of what's going on here. Cook was seen walking the sidelines with a Bills athletic trainer during parts of Sunday's practice, but with no report of an injury, it's hard to imagine this being anything other than a contract-related absence. As long as Cook is out, we can expect Ray Davis and Ty Johnson to see more work. Stay tuned for an update on Cook's practice status come Monday.

Colts lose Salvon Ahmed to serious injury on hip-drop tackle in practice
The hip-drop tackle causes so many injuries that the NFL has banned it from games.
(Aug 3 -- Yahoo Sports)

Colts RB Salvon Ahmed (leg/ankle) was carted off the field during Sunday's practice.
The now-banned hip-drop tackle was the culprit here. Colts safety Trey Washington reportedly deployed the method on a play that resulted in Ahmed screaming and remaining down for several minutes after the play. The veteran running back was given an air cast before being carted off the field on a stretcher, but it sounds like he'll be at risk of missing most, if not all, of the season once we learn the details of his injury. Head coach Shane Steichen said after practice that it was a mistake by Washington, a rookie out of Mississippi who is trying to make the team as a UDFA, but it's a stark reminder of why the league pushed to and ultimately banned the tackle after the 2023 season. Ahmed joined the Colts last October and was battling for a spot on the 53-man roster in camp. We'll provide an update on his status once we learn more.

Bills running back James Cook is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is seeking a lucrative extension.
